GLO Leadership Elections coming UP May 22nd!
Dear GLO Member,
Our current executive board's two-year term is coming to a close and, per our constitution, elections for a new e-board will be held this May. We’re excited to facilitate the process of electing our union’s next board! Below you will find important information about how the election will proceed, and how you can participate:
Our election will be held in-person on Wednesday, May 22nd, location TBD. Mail ballots will be available on request for members unable to be in Providence on that date. (If you expect to require a ballot by mail, please contact us at elections@glounion.org with an updated address!) All GLO members in good standing are eligible to vote, regardless of bargaining unit status.
For grads who are currently outside the bargaining unit, good standing is maintained by paying solidarity dues. All members who are not currently in the bargaining unit will receive a reminder email about solidarity dues, and provisional ballots will be available for voters who have not yet paid solidarity dues this semester.
Grads who are not currently GLO members can sign a membership card any time before May 22nd to become eligible to vote. Anyone who is unsure of their membership status can reach out to organizing@glounion.org.
GLO members who have been in Bargaining Unit positions (Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Teaching Fellow or Proctor) any time in the last four semesters, and who are members in good standing, are eligible to run for office. Petitions nominating a candidate must be submitted to the Elections Committee on or before May 2nd. Nomination petitions for the following positions must include the signatures of 25 GLO members in good standing:
President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Political Director
Coordinator for Social Justice and Accountability
Coordinator for Communications
Coordinator for Organizing
Lead Organizer for Workers in Master’s Programs
Lead Organizer for International Graduate Workers
Nomination petitions for the following positions must include the signatures of 10 GLO members in good standing:
Lead Organizer for Physical Sciences
Lead Organizer for Life Sciences
Lead Organizer for Humanities
Lead Organizer for Social Sciences
The Elections Committee will verify the eligibility of nominees and ask whether they accept their nomination. Eligible nominees who accept their nomination will appear on the ballot. All uncontested candidates assume office by acclamation. All positions have two-year terms of office.
In Solidarity,
The GLO Elections Committee
