Voting in our constitution referendum
GLO’s E-Board has proposed reforms to our union’s constitution, and members can now vote in a referendum on whether to approve these changes.
Voting in the referendum on modifications to GLO’s constitution will open later today, Monday September 26 and will remain open until Monday, October 10. You can read about the proposed changes to the constitution here, and a side-by-side comparison of the proposed constitution and the current constitution is available here.
Eligibility to vote in this referendum is determined by both labor law and GLO’s current constitution. Bargaining Unit Members are defined in our constitution as any grad who is either currently working as an RA, TA, TF, or proctor covered by our contract or who has held such a position in the past four semesters. Good standing is defined as being current with dues. Out-of-unit dues are due on October 15, and can be paid here, but for the duration of this referendum, all GLO members will be in good standing by default. If by tomorrow you have not received a ballot and you believe you should have received one, please reach out to elections@glounion.org.
Because this referendum handles alterations to GLO’s constitution, in order for it to pass, at least 25% of eligible voters must participate in the referendum and at least 70% of votes must be in favor.
This referendum will be held through the website OpaVote. If you are eligible to vote in the referendum, you should receive an email from OpaVote containing a personal link for you to cast your ballot later today.
If you experience difficulties voting, or have any other questions regarding the referendum, please email elections@glounion.org to apprise the Elections Committee of your problem so that we can assist you.
